Domaine Seguinot-Bordet Chablis Grand Cru Vaudesir 2018

Séguinot-Bordet is a 16-hectare domaine specialising entirely in Chablis.

The property has been in the hands of the Bordet family since 1590 and is now maintained by 13th generation family member Jean-François Bordet. Jean-François pays particular attention to obtaining the best fruit possible through careful pruning, de-budding and harvesting. Often harvesting later than his neighbours in Chablis, Jean-François looks to achieve greater ripeness and, with his extended lees contact for the fermentation, he makes wines with great structure and a sense of lusciousness to them. 

Though Domaine Séguinot-Bordet started writing its history way back in 1590, the current head of the winery, Jean-François Bordet, takes on a much contemporary style of winemaking. Vinification occurs in stainless steel vats to preserve freshness (except for the Grand Cru, which is aged in small wooden foudres) and the wines are matured for 3 to 5 months on their lees to maximise contact and promote lusciousness. The estate’s Chablis has earned a reputation for its classic style of clean fruit, bright acidity and minerality. 

This Grand Cru Vaudesir wine is the pinnacle of their range, and comes from vines of 40-65 years old grown on a south-south-east-facing plot of Kimmeridgian clay, said to lend the wine its iodine-like character. A rich, firmly structured wine, offering immense complexity and length, which rewards careful cellaring, typically reaching optimum maturity 3-5 years from bottling.

Very pretty pale golden yellow in colour with light greenish glints. Bright, luminous and limpid. Its like a ray of sunshine with a multitude of summer scents. It fineness, grace and maturity with charm and distinction. Is a perfect balance of class and elegance, vivacity and mellowness. Halfway, it is extremely rich with a solid structure, ripe, full yet delicate and as for the finish-this is never-ending, smooth and silky, harmonious and nimble.
