The new appellation includes red and white wines from Cairanne commune and covers about 80% of the area which previously covered Cotes du Rhone Village Cairanne. The potential area of the Village appellation was 1350 hectares and AOP Cairanne it is 1088 hectares.
1937 Cairanne became included in the appellation Cotes du Rhone.
1966 The best communes may call their wines Cotes du Rhone Village.
1974 The name of the commune may be added Cotes du Rhone Village Cairanne.
2016 Cairanne is recognized as a CRU by the name AOP Cairanne.
In addition to the few crus of the southern Rhône, this village wine with location information has the highest quality classification of the entire appellation. Stronger, full-bodied and with the typical red fruit aromas and a fine herbal spice, this dry red delights with subtle wood aromas of vanilla and fresh, peppery notes. Needs a lot of air. Goes well with truffle omelets.
Vine age: 30-40 years
Culinary Recommendation: To be served at 16 C to 18 C. Good match with barbecued leg of lamb, cheddar cheese, roasted pork loin, game birds, truffle omelet.
